This a photo of a strange looking plant I saw on a street of Tokyo.
I didn’t know what it was, but it looked bit prehistoric.

There was news on the US president wanting to strengthen their nuclear armament last week. When I saw the news, I remembered what a girl once told me when we were in Hiroshima a few years go. We were there on our school trip, and after visiting the Hiroshima Peace Museum, one of our students said, “Why don’t we get rid of it?”. I asked, “get rid of what?”, and she replied with her serious face, “Nuclear bombs of course!”.

I told her that I wish every person in charge of a country can think like her. A truth is often simple and straight, so that even school children can see it. I hope those guys who have their fingers on a missile button can understand that only a small amount of human stupidity is enough to send us back to the Jurassic period. The only difference is that they will be not many life forms left to roam on this planet.

江戸川区の平井駅から歩いた時に見つけた草。ブルーの壁際に頑張って生えていた雑草。何という草なのか分からないが、ちょっと見た目が恐竜がいた時代の植物っぽい。

数日前、ニュースでアメリカが核兵器の増産するようなことを言っていた。それを聞いて、ある生徒が言っていたことを思い出した。オーストラリアからの修学旅行で、数年前に広島の平和公園に行った。平和記念資料館を見た後に、一人の女子生徒が、「核ミサイルなんて無くせば良いじゃん？！」と真面目な顔をして一言。ティーンエイジャーのナイーブさと、それとは逆の、反論の余地のない明白さを感じた。真理とはシンプルで真っ直ぐな物で、子供でも分かること。大人の事情の方が、よっぽど嘘が多い。

サン＝テクジュペリ作の「星の王子様」に出てくるのは、滑稽な王様や自惚れ屋。そんな人間たちが、大量破壊兵器を手中におさめているこの世の中。ちょっと間違えば、この星は古生代に逆戻り。でもその時は、隕石衝突で恐竜が絶滅したように、今いる生き物の多くがこの惑星から消えて無くなっているかもしれない。「そんなバカな物いらないじゃん」と言った、素直で人の痛みがわかる、その女の子のような人たちが、次の時代のリーダーになってくれることを願う。
